The Vets & U16s of Alderley Edge 6s came to town on Saturday hoping for 7th heaven, but unfortunately were made to wobble like the sets of Blakes' 7.
Knutsford to be fair were that bit stronger in all departments on the day; 15 year old Harvey Reyer put his pipe & Racing Post down perhaps 3-4 times to keep a clean sheet, John Squires marshalled his back line with robust & skilled commitment; Ady Holah dominated centre field creating space for Norman Jamieson to lead the line with his usual class.
Once Ady Holah had shattered the back board with a route 1 short corner on 15 minutes the result was never in doubt. Knutsford rolled their strong 16 in the heat of the day and their freshness, energy & ability was a bit too much for Alderley. Steve Hope at LW missed a couple of sitters, but then scored his one somewhat flaccid goal for the season; Norman bagged a brace, and MOM James Routs excelled at RW to score his first hat trick for 20 years (are you watching Mark Hughes?)
For a few years Knutsford's line up has been a bit too old and a bit too young, but with the addition this year of twenty something's Henry Pass, Andy Crabtree & George Nairn; allied to the growing maturity of 17-18 year olds Connor Holah, Ben Moser & Ben Squires - Knutsford have additional legs & lungs this term.
Well done chaps; some fantastic proper hockey played, some very impressive performances given, some bright futures ahead, a lovely afternoon out was had by all.
